Kumihimo!
I've tried out a new craft today...
This fall at my knitting retreat the opening night class is on creating custom closures with Kumihimo braid. Now I'm really excited to see what Gwen Bortner has in store for us, but I'm a bit impatient. Also, I like to have a bit of an idea of what's going on when I host a class...
So, I ordered in a few of those disks & tried it out~
The kit had instructions for 4 different braids on it.
My favorite was the round braid~

For my practice braids I am using pink Louisa Harding Grace (silk & wool) along with silver Debbie Bliss Pure Silk. They both were left over from other projects. One thing I've figured out so far is that Kumihimo is great for using up left overs...
Next I tried a flat braid~

All 3 of these variations are done on the same braid. I just switched out the positions of the colors to play around with finished look.
Last I did the rectangular braid~

I think I liked this one the least. It wasn't difficult or anything, I just don't like the way this one looks I guess.
Now, I was quite surprised to see how easy all this was. I was up and braiding within minutes. Of course my technique & tension still leave quite a bit to be desired. It's really fun once you get a groove going.

You'll probably be seeing more of this around the blog here & there. Especially once I get in a few books & really go wild!
