Okay, first I have some shameless promotion.
I made up a batch of alphabet stitch markers that are great to use with Cat's new book, New Pathways for Sock Knitters. In the book she gives each stitch marker a letter & uses those letters to refer to individual markers in both the instructions & in the diagrams. These sets feature beads with the letters used in the book right on the bead and make it much easier to follow the instructions in the book.
There are two options, a smaller set with A-D.
These are the main letters used in the book. With these you'll be set for any sock in the book except Coriolis & Clematis Vine.

There is also a larger set with A-F.
You'll need an "E" marker for the Coriolis socks and both "E" & "F" for the Clematis Vine. So with this set you'll be able to do any sock in the book.

The beads are Pewter & all the finding are Sterling Silver. I also have 24k gold plated beads coming in late this week to make up gold sets. The links above the photos will bring you to my etsy shop where the stitch markers may be purchased.
Friday was actually my second blogiversary! Rather than posting I was hiding in the back of my shop with the tornado sirens going off & sheets of rain pelting down. Luckily Lansing wasn't hit too hard. We didn't have any tornadoes & the damage was minimal. The major tornado was actually out by where my hairdresser lives in Potterville. Again, luckily the storm claimed no lives in Michigan.
So, with an entire summer's worth of rain catching up to us & Fall severe weather beginning I'm having a bit of a contest.
Please leave me a comment with your favorite way to cheer up on those long gray rainy days.
I'll close entries on Aug 31 & announce the winners the first week of September. (oh, prizes, there will be prizes... I've got some lovely yarns in my stash...)
On a quick last note: Robin & I had our first Agility competition Sunday. The weather was lovely, we had a wonderful day, and despite having some sudden fears of the tunnel, Robin did really well & we're looking forward to our next match.

My kids are the best antidote to gray rainy days because all they see are the puddles. I dress them up in raingear and let them go nuts with the stomping. There's nothing like kiddie giggles to chase away the blahs.
I live in Vancouver, so I kinda like grey skies and blah days, which is mostly what we get around here. My other antidote to the blahs is a good book, a good movie, and a nice fire to warm up the room. And then a good snuggle in a warm bed while listening to the rain patter down on the roof. I really do sleep best to the sound of the rain.
Happy blogiversary, too!

We got it pretty bad in Brighton as well - I heard that a house blew up in Howell from a lightening strike and I think a minor tornado hit quite near our home. lil' b and I also spent about an hour in the basement, but then we hit the road and followed the storm to Novi where we were meeting friends for dinner.
Cheery things for rainy days? Well, I like making sofa nests in the living room. I have two plush sofas with loads of pillows, and I take them all and throw them on the floor (lil' b handles the smaller ones). Then we crawl into the very center of the pile and read picture books. We can still see the storm out the windows, but it seems so far away when you're perched in a sofa nest with your favorite books.

For rainy days, nothing can beat curling up with a good book and bug mug of tea. Add in a roaring fireside, snuggly pet, or homemade blanket for added comfort!

Rainy days are wonderful if you have a favorite book to keep you company, and perhaps a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.

Gray days? Personally, I love them, but my favorite gray days are in late September and October. I love to curl up in a big sweater in my chair with a quilt on my lap, sip hot apple cider, hug a baby bunny, and read a book by the fire. That is a VERY cheery rainy day for me. :)

I love to stay in, hang out with my 4-legged children, grab a nice cup of coffee and knit, watch some tv, etc. :) Nothing could be better on a gray day!
Hey btw, have you found the Gnomes? How many more stops do they have to make?

I live in California now, so I sometimes miss the storm cellars and the gray days. I always loved pulling out the cards and games and playing for hours. Or, knitting or reading if I was home by myself. Nowadays, I sometimes just have to close the shades and pretend it is a rainy day. :-)

If it's a warm & rainy day, I love going to my in-laws' to sit on their screened-in deck with them and knit with my MIL and her mom.
If it's chilly out, I will usually hang out in my sweats with my boys and we'll play games together, because they get bored during the day when it rains.
And if it's dark outside, there's no better time to knit or craft while watching old Cary Grant movies with my family. Especially if it's cold out and we can light up the fireplace. :)

I love the stitch markers - can't wait to check out that book!
I will be the first to admit that I love the occasional gray, rainy day; it takes the pressure off "doing" anything, which for me usually means hours of guilt-free spinning and knitting, with a liberal dash of reading and napping (this is assuming, of course, that said rainy day occurs while the munchkins are at school... otherwise there is little "down time" for mama.) If the stormy weather lasts too long, I'll go on an outing to the library, or to check out some local shop I've never been in before. And then come home to tea and yarn :)
(Congrats on the agility success, by the way!)

Well, first off you need a little rain. Something we are 11" short of for this year. I had hoped for rain this weekend.
I love to wake up to a rainy weekend. I don't get out of my pajamas. I make a huge pot of coffee, get the paper and read it cover to cover. Then depending on the ferocity of the storm, sit out on the porch and watch the show. Florida holds the record for lightning strikes. I take the time to relax, curl up with some knitting or a good book. We usually take the opportunity to bake something yummy to snack on during the day. All in the hopes that the power stays on! Board games are also part of our evenings.

There's nothing better on a gray, rainy, day then curling up on the couch with your knitting and a favorite movie that you've seen hundreds of times but never gets old, like Steel Magnolias, My Best Friends Wedding, or one of those old comedies like Bringing Up Baby, or Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. And if it's also a cold, rainy, day you need a cozy afghan and a cup of hot chocolate! I could even look forward to a gray day like that.

Rainy days call for Turner Classic Movies! The Thin Man, A Charlie Chan movie,Rebecca,or Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary Grant. If I am feeling restless then it is time to hit the Aquatic Center in Charlotte for a good swim. Swimming inside on a rainy day makes you think the weather outside is sunny and warm.(I was in the pool when the tornado was hitting Charlotte/Potterville so they made me get out which ruined the "sunny day" effect!)
Rainy nights call for open windows-no matter how cold. Rainy nights make the sleeping perfection-the fresh smell and pitter patter lulls me to sleep.

I live in the Pacific NW. It definitely is gray here. I know that I can always be cheered when I hang out with friends or at the least call up a good friend and have a chat.

When I lived in Florida I used to sit out on the (covered) patio after my shift (waitress) with a late lunch & a book. Watching those storms was amazing. The sheer power... Back home here in Michigan, it's the smells that catch me, every time. With 3 little ones I don't get to sit and enjoy the rain much anymore, but I always try to crack a window to catch a bit of that fresh, clean rain breeze. A cup of tea or hot cocoa and a quiet activity (sewing, knitting, or a good book) is perfect on those days, of course.

On rainy days I like to watch hours and hours of one tv series and knit. I just finished watching the entire Buffy the Vampire Slayer series and have just started Farscape. Most of them I've seen before so I can be entertained without having to pay too much attention if I'm knitting lace.

Happy blogiversary!
For a rainy day I like to curl up with a good book on the couch under a blanket my high school friend's mom made for me yeeeears ago. I usually will add in some knitting and tea later on. Coloring books are also something that's enjoyable when it's all doom n gloom outside!

I'm so glad that I made it to your shop last week. My Mom and Grandmother had a wonderful time! Last week was the ONLY time I'd visited MI in 30 years that I remember rain the entire time. I flew out the day before the big storm which was lucky for us. I normally like rain and storms and love watching for lightning and listening to the thunder. It makes being inside so much cozier. Curl up on the couch with a blanket and a project or book and a warm drink and it's heaven to me. Rain also helps you appreciate sunny weather more. :-) Happy Blogiversary!

When the sun don't shine it's a rest for my eyes and a challenge for my mind! I like to reach for a warm drink or some homemade soup, and recall color memories using my yarn stash or my bead stash. Some people keep a notebook for easy reference, but I like to gaze at the fiber/beads and try to recreate those images. It's very satisfying!

I have three things to cheer me up on a rainy day.
1. Curl up with a good book in bed or your favorite sofa. Nothing more enjoyable.
2. A good movie with popcorn or a favorite snack.
3. Knitting or crocheting a blanket on the sofa with some TV or movies.
PS. I have a fourth but it's not PG :)
Cuddle your partner and have some fun. I'm sure the rain will be forgotten.

Very nice stitch markers! I followed over from Chrispy's blog (she said "contest" [g]), and like her, I'm up in the PNW. Frankly, I *love* gray rainy days, but partly it's because I can enjoy things like the following:
1) Hot cocoa with cinnamon and a splash of Bailey's Irish Cream. If that isn't decadent enough, add some whipped cream. [eg]
2) To be accompanied by a big fat book, of course. (Sounds like a popular option.) Or a movie, but I love listening to the rain. Sometimes in bed, but it's hard to drink the hot cocoa that way.
3) Or reading an ebook on the computer while knitting. It's amazing how much knitting you can get done this way. Just watch out for too much of the hot cocoa with Bailey's; it can really screw up your knitting. ;)
4) Settling in with a graphics program to design some digital art. I just dabble, but it's a lot of fun, and I concentrate better on rainy days.
5) Naps are especially nice on days like this, in between segments of the above whirlwind of activity. (Probably due to the hot cocoa with-- Nevermind.)

Hey lady, I'm not having much success getting in touch with you, so I'm posting a comment to your blog.
I replied to your email of 9/27, then sent you another reply on 10/16 to see if you got that one, and I also sent you a message on Ravelry on 10/28 because I never received a reply from you. Are you getting any of my messages? I'm concerned, to say the least. Is everything alright?
I know you are blogging here, so you should get this message, for sure!
Your Brennan cardi looks like it's going to be AMAZING! :)
