Okay,
I took a night for myself last night & decided that I'd skip blogging for a night. Which means I've got a bit to cover today because for the first time all week I've really been knitting!
First off, I finished the sweater for the Dutchicans. We'll have to convince Kristi to give us the cute baby in sweater pictures in a few months. In the mean time here's the not so exciting baby sweater sans baby pictures...
& the little button I added along the waist band.
The buttons are all for show. They are very securely sewn on & the two closest to the neck have snaps behind them that open up the neck line to expedite the stuffing of the child into the sweater.
Now I just have 2 hats & a pair of booties to knit in about 2 weeks...
I also started my second Iris Garden sock the day before I got hurt. So, today I picked it up and almost got through the end of the foot.
Okay, I've got another questionnaire to answer. This time for the Knit Mitten Kit Swap. If all goes as planned there will be a link here for you to click & see the questionnaire. If not, you can already see it...
Are you allergic to any fibers?
I am allergic to acrylic & am sensitive to really scratchy wools (like Lopi)
What are your favorite colors?
I love greens & purples, but am really open to color. Just no neon or bright solid yellow
Are you a new mitt knitter? How long have you been knitting mittens?
Umm... I think mittens were my second project when I 'got serious' about knitting 5 or 6 years ago.
Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn?
Either depending on the pattern
What fibers do you prefer in mitten yarn?
Something really soft! I just knit some washable merino mittens for a swap that I loved! I wish I could have kept them. I also think that some alpaca or cashmere blend mittens would be lovely to wear
Where do you usually knit mittens?
I knit everywhere. I'm a very public knitter. If the mitten requires a chart (colorwork or cables) then I'll knit mostly at home, work, and school where I can sit down.
How do you usually carry/store small projects?
I love my go knit pouch, but for me I think that the loop that attaches to my belt loop is a bit too long. It spins around when I walk. I also have messenger bags that I carry both my knitting projects & my everyday necessities in.
What are your favorite mitten patterns?
I love colorwork mittens & lately have knit several pairs of thrummed mittens. I'll have knit 3 pairs of them by the end of the year (so I think I'm thrummed out!).
What are your favorite mitten knitting techniques?
Colorwork in a small gauge so I can still drive my car & what not when wearing them. I also am intrigued about maybe using beads?
What new techniques would you like to try?
Possibly beads... I think my next mittens need to be magic loop. I knit socks this way, but for some reason the doublepoints always come out when I start mittens.
What are your favorite needles for knitting mittens?
I'd like to knit them with magic loop
What are some of your favorite yarns?
Merino, Alpaca, wool/silk blends. I have sensitive skin so soft is a big requirement.
What yarn do you totally covet?
I now have managed to get my hands on a single skein of Koigu. So that's always something I'm looking forward too. I'd love to try posh yarns or Hand Maiden.
Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object?
Ummm... How about the Modern Afghan from Mason Dixon Knitting. Only out of a lovely tone on tone handdyed washable merino or cashmere merino blend.
Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)?
Bamboo circulars. I like both crystal palace and addi natura
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be?
Art Yarns send me this lovely sample of Cashmere 5 in my favorite colors, green & purple. If I was a yarn I'd hope to be as lovely as it was.
Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack?
One word... Chocolate
What’s your favorite animal?
all over... Dragonflies
As a pet... Cats
Would you prefer super warm mittens or something more like fingerless mitts?
It gets cold here! Some nice mittens for the drive to work as a necessity.
If you were a color what color would you be?
A nice rich fern green
What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature?
Gosh, can it just be nature as a whole. The sun was out today & I just wanted to lay outdoors and soak it all in. I suppose if I had to narrow it down then I'd say bodies of water, mountains, trillium, lilacs, humming birds, and dragonflies.
Do you have a wishlist?
Yep on Amazon
Anything else you’d like to share with the group today?
No, I think I'm going to go sleep now...
Wait, despite being somewhat of a yarn snob I'm actually really easy to please. I've only gotten one swap package I didn't like & it mostly had to do with my pals complete disregard for my acrylic allergy (all items found a good home at a local charity so it worked out fine).
