Lacy Beginnings

So, I got that fantastic blue roving in the lace swap.
Then I found some lovely green roving that complimented it nicely...Blogaug2006_073
It's a mix of every pastel in the rainbow, heavy on the blues & yellows, so to the eye it looks green.
Both rovings were a Merino Wool Tussah Silk blend...

A bit of work over the last few days & All the blue & half the green is spun up!

The second half of the green is well on it's way...

As you can see I'm getting better at loading the bobbin. The first couple of times I spun way too much in one spot (almost filled that spot in the bobbin) before moving on and repeating the same mistake. I just got so into spinning I didn't think about moving the hook until I could see the yarn over the bobbin. I think a woolly winder may be a good option for me...

So... what shawl to knit.
Two lace patterns have really been catching my eye lately, Print o' the Wave & Lilly of the Valley. I really like Eunny's Print O' The Wave Stole, but I really prefer Triangular or Square Shawls. So either I needed to make the center square, or figure out how to work that pattern into a triangular shawl.

Then my mother found the perfect pattern, Flirty Ruffles from Fiddlesticks.

It has the Print o' The Wave pattern as a triangle, and if I use the matching edging from Eunny's Stole~

I will have a shawl that's exactly what I want!

My plan of action now is to finish spinning. Then use the green for the body & the blue for the edging. I should have around 1400 yards total (1100 green, 300 blue) which will be plenty.

Next question... can I start a new shawl?
Big Answer: Yes! I finished the edging on the dragon shawl last night & will be blocking him tonight!

But, The next shawl on my list is the Peacock shawl... That should be a pretty quick knit though.

BTW I'm figuring out this whole catagory thing on the blog so you can click it and see all the posts on a project. Hopefully I'll go back and catagorize my old posts as well...but you know how that goes...
