Spinning Alpacas

I've finally finished the alpaca I've been spinning the last couple weeks. My goal is to spin enough yarn for a blanket. I stopped to take a bunch of pictures and show off my spindles.
Blogsept05_014 Both spindles were spun on my Purple Turkish Spindle. The first was spun a couple of weeks ago and I finished up the second one last night. I literally just pulled a chunk off the main ball and spun it. Oddly enough, when plied they were within 2 feet of the same length! You can see how full my Lacey Top Whorl is. I just couldn't bring myself to stopping that close to the end.

The next series of photos shows how my Turkish spindle brakes apart to give me a center pull ball.
Blogsept05_017 The shaft pulls out.

Blogsept05_018 Then the small cross arm.

Blogsept05_021 Next the large cross arm.

Blogsept05_023 Last you pull out your leader (mine was lime green!) and, like magic, a center pull ball.

Blogsept05_029 The finished skein was 3oz and 103 yards.

Blogsept05_034I also dyed the yarn for my first 6 socks project. I attempted to get it as solid as possible, but I think tone on tone will still show off the stitches well.

Blogsept05_006 Lastly, I swatched up my Norsk sweater last weekend. After 4 needle sizes the gauge was perfect! Now I just need to wait 2 more days to cast on!
